** Common credit score questions **

How often does your credit score change?
Transactions and purchases can affect your credit score, not just applying for a home loan or a credit card. When a bank or financial institution passes this information to the Australian credit reporting agencies, they’ll update your credit score and add the incident to your credit file. Paying back credit also updates your score, but so does not paying on time.

How often should you check your credit score?
Both your credit score and credit history are worth checking for several reasons, such as if you want to apply for credit products or youre trying to improve a rating, looking for negative events or incorrect information. You can check your credit scores as frequently as you’d like, with experts recommending looking as little as once a year or as often as once a month.

Why does my credit score differ between Experian and Equifax?
Different credit bureaus use different algorithms to interpret and quantify your credit data, relying on credit limits, timeframes, scales, and credit events to determine scores.

What is a good credit score?
Both Experian and Equifax have a credit scoring system that’s divided into five tiers, covering Excellent, Very Good, Good, Fair, and Poor or Below Average. Breaking that down further, if you check your credit and find an Experian credit score between 625 and 699 and an Equifax credit score between 622 and 725, your score is technically considered to be “good”. Anything above this is even better.
